He swam for all he was worth. He was still too deep. He could feel his lungs burning, hear his blood roaring in his ears. He swam harder still, desperate to reach the surface, still some yards above him. He'd never feared drowning, but...

He was weakening. With each stroke he slowed slightly, his body screaming for air. His waterlogged clothes started to drag at him, slowing him further still. Now truly desperate, he kicked off his boots, which now felt like heavy weights. It wasn't enough. He tore his shield from his back. That helped.

He struggled towards the surface, as deep terror began to take root. He wouldn't make it. The surface was still so far off. Slowly, the last of his energy left him. His struggles weakened, slowed, stopped, as his body began to drift back down. Who would have guessed that, after all that had transpired, the Hero of Time would die this way?
